Keane - One game at a time
Robbie Keane insists Premier League survival remains the priority for Tottenham Hotspur before looking towards a European spot. Spurs have risen up the table since Harry Redknapp's appointment as manager in the autumn and appear to have banished all relegation concerns after moving nine points clear of the relegation zone. The 40-point mark is within Spurs' reach, while seventh spot, and the likely promise of European qualification, is only three points away for the Carling Cup finalists. Keane is enjoying his football after returning to White Hart Lane from Liverpool in January and admits he wants to play in European competition again. However, the Republic of Ireland striker is not looking too far ahead as he reflects on a 'remarkable' season in the Premier League. "This season has been remarkable," Keane told Hotspur magazine. "I can't think of another year when, at the end of March, you have as many people in the street talking about relegation as you do Europe. Just want to win"But whatever happens, and as a team, we will be doing our best to ensure that over the closing weeks of the season we give 110 per cent, absolutely. "The priority has to be safety first and foremost, but once we've achieved that we'll look to get as high up the table as possible. Then the real work begins for next year. "I am the same as all the players here - we just want to win - that's it. The press want to hear about players setting definite targets, but there is so much in the game that can stop you from doing that; the finest margins that can make the difference between picking up silverware and going home empty-handed. "We found that out only last month at the Carling Cup Final, so for me it has to be about being fit, getting my boots on, giving my all, and seeing where that takes me. "You can never look forward more than a game at a time. That's not to say I don't dream of winning trophies and playing in Europe or at the World Cup again - that should be the dream of every footballer, surely - and I'm convinced that at both club and international level those opportunities will come again."
