    Jol waits on Berbatov

    05 Sep 2006 - 08:33:52

Tottenham coach Martin Jol remains hopeful that Dimitar Berbatovwill be fit for this weekend's clash against Manchester United even though the Bulgaria international picked up an injury in Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Romania.

The 25-year-old former Bayer Leverkusen star suffered an adductor strain in the second half of the 2-2 draw and will miss Bulgaria's clash with Slovenia on Wednesday.

However, Jol told Spurs' official website: "Dimitar has come back and will have treatment here.

"Hopefully he will be fit for Saturday's game against Manchester United."

Meanwhile, Jol has spoken of his pride in watching Jermain Defoe score twice for England in Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra.

Defoe was left out of Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad for this summer's World Cup and Jol was pleased to see his striker respond by producing a fine display on the pitch in the 5-0 rout of the European minnows.

"When England scored two goals I was waiting for him to join in and he has now proved he can score goals at international level," said the Dutchman.

"Hopefully he will do the same against Macedonia because they are better than Andorra. I was pleased for him and our other players too."
