Jol sets sights on top four

Martin Jol doesn't believe Tottenham are ready to challenge for the title but has targeted a top-four finish next season.

The Spurs boss strengthened his attacking options with the club record £16.5million capture of England striker Darren Bent last week and has now set his sights on breaking the big four's stranglehold on the Premier League.

The 23-year-old's arrival at White Hart Lane followed the previous £4.5million capture of teenage full-back Gareth Bale from Southampton.

Former loanee Adel Taarabt has also signed on a permanent basis from Lens during the close season.

"For me as a manager it would be important to win the title, not the FA Cup. But it's impossible at Spurs," Jol told the Daily Mirror.

"Top four though, say if one club falls out of the top four, Liverpool or Arsenal, why shouldn't we take up that position? Why not?"

Spurs' highest Premier League finish has been fifth in both of the last two seasons.
