Jol plays down Lennon fears
18 Dec 2006 - 09:52:16
Tottenham boss Martin Jol has played down fears over Aaron Lennon's fitness despite the England winger sitting out Sunday's 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
The 19-year-old midfielder was rested as a precautionary measure after suffering inflammation of a knee that required surgery in the summer.
However, Jol believes Lennon will be fit to face Southend in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
"Aaron had an operation in August and had (the problem) again, so it was better to rest him," he revealed.
"It comes and goes so hopefully he will be fit for Wednesday."
Meanwhile, Jol hailed the growing presence of Tom Huddlestone in the heart of the Spurs midfield.
The teenager set up Calum Davenport's opener then grabbed his first Premiership goal with a crisp volley in the 24th minute.
Jol added: "Tom does not show a lack of ambition because he wants to be the best all the time and that is a good characteristic. He is developing and growing.
"He is really experienced because he played over 100 games for Derby before he was 18.
"I told him before the start of the season he would play a lot of matches for us this season."
