Jol defends Zokora

Tottenham manager Martin Jol defended Didier Zokora after the Ivory Coast midfielder was sent off in the closing stages of the 2-1 victory against Middlesbrough.

Aaron Lennon appeared to push George Boateng over and, before the Boro midfielder could retaliate, Zokora rushed in to take matters into his own hands.

After the ensuing melee, both Boateng and Zokora saw red, to Jol's dismay.

"The only thing I can say is that my players know never start a fight because they are disciplined. Zokora wanted to prevent a fight," he said.

"A win like that after a defeat like the one against Arsenal is exactly what you have to do.

"They came for the point but we showed the fans we wanted to work hard - which we didn't do against Arsenal.

"The only thing we could do was give a good performance and win because we want to be in the top half of the table and we have six home games in the next eight. We gave everyone a good answer."
