Jermain Defoe bids farewell to White Hart Lane

Jermain Defoe was given a hero’s send off at the weekend as he was carried off by his teammates and paraded in front of the Spurs fans for the final time.

Defoe has agreed a deal to join MLS side Toronto at the end of the month and marked his final appearance at White Hart Lane with a victory over Everton. Defoe has spent the best part of a decade with Spurs, joining in 2004 and spending a brief spell away from the club with Portsmouth in 2008.

Defoe has spent most of this season on the bench, making just three starts out of his fourteen Premier league appearances this campaign. However, in all competitions the striker has netted ten in 23 appearances, scoring seven goals in just five Europa games this season.

Jermain will forever be in the hearts of the Tottenham faithful, scoring 143 goals for the club in 363 appearances making him the fifth-highest scorer in the clubs history. The London-born striker can take great pride in his Premier league career which has seen him net 124 goals making him currently the fourteenth highest scorer and is also the holder of the most goals scored in the league as substitute.

The move to Toronto is a strange one considering the World Cup is only around the corner and will considerably hinder his chances of making the trip to Brazil. Defoe is still adamant that he can score goals and make the squad, realistically though this could be the end of Jermain’s England career and start of a new beginning in Canada.
