Injuries add to Spurs' woes
16 Aug 2007 - 07:30:06
Tottenham's poor start to the new Premier League season has been compounded by a double injury blow to Dimitar Berbatov and Younes Kaboul.
Spurs have lost their two opening fixtures - 1-0 to Sunderland last weekend and 3-1 at home to Everton on Wednesday evening - despite spending around £40million on new players during the summer.
And now striker Berbatov and central defender Kaboul have joined a lengthy injury list which already contains the likes of Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon, Gareth Bale and Lee Young-Pyo.
"We've had a couple more blows," admitted manager Martin Jol.
"Younes Kaboul will be out for the next three or four weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered against Everton, that's a real kick in the teeth, and Dimitar Berbatov has a groin problem.
"It's an old problem and he will now visit a specialist in Germany. He will be out for a couple of weeks."
However, Jol remains hopeful that £10million summer signing Bale and fellow full-back Young-Pyo are close to making their comebacks.
"Gareth Bale is looking better," he revealed.
"Our medical team have also told me that Lee Young-Pyo is up to 85 per cent fitness and that will soon be 100 per cent."
