Hughton explains Seb absence

Newcastle United's first-team coach Chris Hughton has revealed that defender Sebastien Bassong has missed the pre-season action to date due to a slight injury concern.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from the relegated Magpies this summer, but is currently sidelined by injury.

Hughton told The Gazette: "Sebastien's now back training with the group. What he has done is a different programme.

"He played a little bit later than everybody else with Cameroon and he had a little problem towards the end of last season.

"It hasn't been an issue. We've just needed to make sure we managed it."
