HATCHET MAN: Expect Spurs to spend huge and sell off the failures this summer as Redknapp turns on
Published : 21 May 2009 11:36:22
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy told the club's shareholders last December the he didn't 'envisage any major transactions in or out of the club during January when the financial world is falling apart'. Moments later his manager, Harry Redknapp, stood up and told them how far Spurs were behind clubs such as Aston Villa, and guess what happened in the transfer window? That's right, the club spent nearly £50 million on new players. So when Harry insists he has been told by Levy that he will have tosell one or two players and be 'creative' this summer the impression isthat there is not a lot of money to spend. So how much more is he going to spend? Expect another major overhaul of the squad with another expensive striker signing for Spurs. Maybe Levy's message to Redknapp on the transfer window is wishful thinking or a shallow ploy to prevent prices of their targets getting massively inflated. But Harry is one of the best managers around at dealing in the transfer market and if Tottenham really want to him rein him in they shouldn't have appointed him in the first place.
