Harry reveals Pav interest
20 Jan 2010 - 09:28:04
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that several English clubs are interested in signing Roman Pavlyuchenko and still thinks the Russia international could be heading to Zenit St Petersburg this month.
Zenit had claimed that Spurs had turned down their request to take the 28-year-old on a six-month loan agreement with a view to a permanent end-of-season transfer.
However, Redknapp doubts that is the case, saying: "I think Zenit have been on, but I don't think it's true that he's turned it down. I'd be surprised.
"I think they've made contact with the chairman and there's been one or two English clubs interested as well.
"It won't bother me if he stays here. He can play, he's just been unlucky. I've got (Jermain) Defoe, (Peter) Crouch and (Robbie) Keane. We couldn't have five strikers. It's difficult enough with four."
Pavlyuchenko has started only two games this season, both in the Carling Cup, and has featured in just 62 minutes of Premier League football.
Redknapp has said that if Pavlyuchenko does leave White Hart Lane this month, he may step up his interest in Real Madrid's former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
