Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that he has been a long-term admirer of Wilson Palacios who has completed his switch to White Hart Lane from Wigan Athletic, subject to requiring a work permit.
The 24-year-old Honduras international joins Spurs for a fee reported to be in the region of £14million after spending the last 12 months at the JJB Stadium.
Palacios made eight appearances for Birmingham City at the start of last season before following Steve Bruce to Wigan and featuring in 41 games for the Latics.
Redknapp is delighted with his latest acquisition, saying: "We need to improve the squad and that's why I was interested in Palacios.
"He'll come in here and get after it and play aggressively. He'll work and close and run. I feel that we need a bit of that around the place.
"Palacios is a player I've liked since I first saw him and he has the ability to go on to become a top, top player.
"I just like the way he plays. He's an all-round modern midfielder - he gets after it, he's box-to-box.
"I speak to people who've played against him, like Frank Lampard, and no-one has had an easy game against him. He's after you all the time."
