Harry denies Bassong bid talk

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has denied that he has made a bid for Newcastle United defender Sebastien Bassong.

Reports suggested the former Portsmouth boss had had a £10million offer for the 23-year-old Frenchman rejected by the Championship side.

However, speaking in Hong Kong following his side's 2-0 defeat to South China in an exhibition match, Redknapp said: "It isn't true. Not since I've been here.

"He's a player that I was interested in. I like Bassong, he's a young player with a good future and he's a good central defender.

"I don't think we've made an offer as far as I know. I'm sure the chairman hasn't made an offer."

Bassong made 34 appearances for the Magpies last season following his arrival on Tyneside from Metz.
