Harry: Bentley and Jenas in plans
18 Aug 2009 - 15:29:05
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has reassured midfield duo David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas that they have futures at White Hart Lane.
Both of the England internationals have been linked with the exit door at the club this summer as Redknapp has looked to assert his authority on a squad which underperformed for large periods last season.
Bentley, in particular, has been hotly tipped to leave White Hart Lane after a troubled summer in which he was charged with drink-driving which led to open criticism from the former Porstmouth boss.
Despite both players not featuring in Tottenham's 2-1 win over Liverpool at the weekend, Redknapp has insisted that they remain part of his plans.
Redknapp claimed that it will take a 'crazy' off to see either player depart North London, after Jenas and Bentley were linked with Aston Villa.
He said: "I don't know where the Aston Villa story has come from - I've never heard from Martin O'Neill. It's probably an agent trying to make money out of a move.
"Jermaine is injured at the moment but he's a good lad and a great player. Both him and David Bentley are part of my plans.
"It's no good saying people will never go," he added, pointing out Xabi Alonso and Cristiano Ronaldo as examples.
"If people offer crazy money that changes.
"You never say never but we're not looking to sell."
