Gomes plays down achievement
19 Jan 2010 - 12:12:16
Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes claims victories are more important than personal accolades after equalling a club record for clean sheets.
The Brazil international kept a sixth successive clean sheet during Saturday's goalless draw with Hull City.
But despite equalling a 15-year-old club record, Gomes would have preferred the three points.
"It's not just me or just the defence, the whole team has to take credit," he told the club's official website.
"We don't look for the record of course, we just want to keep clean sheets all the time because when you do that, you have more chance to win the games.
"We've had some busy games in the run like Fulham and Blackburn, games when we've had to work really hard for that clean sheet, so we're all proud to equal the record.
"Personally, I don't think about records. I just want to win the games. If the record comes, then that's great, but I just think about the matches.
"I think we deserve it though because we've all worked so hard."
Gomes would claim the record outright should he not concede in the first 65 minutes of Wednesday's Premier League trip to Liverpool.
