Fit-again William Gallas set for Tottenham debut after coming through friendly unscathed

Published: 07 Sep 2010 - 17:23:19

Fit again: William Gallas alongside Jermain Defoe William Gallas today provided Harry Redknapp with a huge boost after playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly win against QPR. The Tottenham boss is still coming to terms with the loss of central defender Michael Dawson - who is expected to be out for two months after picking up a knee injury in England's 4-0 win over Bulgaria last Friday. After the omission of Jonathan Woodgate from the club's 25-man squad last week, injury prone skipper Ledley King, Younes Kaboul and Sebastien Bassong are the club's only fit recognised centre-backs. But Gallas has provided Redknapp with a huge boost ahead of Saturday's clash against West Brom and next week's Champions League clash in Werder Bremen after coming through a training ground match against QPR yesterday unscathed. The France defender played 70 minutes of the north Londonders' 3-1 win at the club's Spurs Lodge training complex in Essex Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood said: 'It was William's first game for a while and it was excellent for the younger boys to play alongside him. 'He showed how he squeezes play up the pitch, how he uses his body and he manages the game superbly.'
