FA seeks Jenas explanation
28 Apr 2009 - 07:35:54
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas could be in hot water with the Football Association following his criticism of referee Howard Webb.
Jenas accused the official of 'crumbling under pressure' when he awarded Manchester United a controversial penalty during Saturday's 5-2 victory for the champions at Old Trafford.
Spurs were leading 2-0 when Webb ruled that Michael Carrick was tripped in the box by goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
Jenas claimed the incident changed the game, but his suggestion that Webb 'was going to give something' to United in the second half could lead to trouble with the FA.
An FA spokesman said: "We have written to Jermaine Jenas to ask for an explanation for his remarks."
The England midfielder had said: "I think it was a case of a referee crumbling under the pressure at Old Trafford really.
"One thing which struck me about it was that he didn't even think. It was like he'd already made his mind up when he came out for the second half that he was going to give something.
"I think he will definitely admit he got that one wrong. It was a very important moment in the season."
