FA reject Keane appeal
27 Feb 2007 - 16:26:36
Tottenham's Robbie Keane has had his claim for wrongful dismissal rejected by the Football Association.
Keane was sent off by referee Graham Poll in Sunday's 4-1 victory at White Hart Lane for deliberate handball.
The Republic of Ireland international was outraged at the 36th minute decision after claiming the ball had struck his hand off his chest on the goalline.
However, following an appeal, the FA have upheld the red card - the first of Keane's professional career.
An FA statement confirmed: "Robbie Keane had his claim for wrongful dismissal rejected.
"He will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity against Bolton Wanderers on February 25."
Immediately after the match, Tottenham manager Martin Jol said: "Robbie said he chested it and I didn't think it was a penalty.
"But I don't want to talk about it at and I'll have another look at the video later.
"I would have loved to see us playing with 11 men in the second half."
