Double groin blow for Spurs
01 Jan 2010 - 11:05:20
Tottenham Hotspur have received a double injury blow following confirmation that both Aaron Lennon and Benoit Assou-Ekotto have picked up groin problems.
England winger Lennon will miss the next two weeks with a minor strain.
However, full-back Assou-Ekotto has been ruled out for four weeks with a more serious injury.
The four-week lay-off means the Cameroon international has been forced to pull out of the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
"Benoit is having an injection on Monday and he will be out for a few weeks," revealed manager Harry Redknapp.
"He has been terrific. Two terrific players, him and Lennon, have both picked up groin strains. It's a big blow to us. They are two outstanding players."
Speaking about who will deputise for Lennon in Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie with Peterborough United, he added: "I could play (Niko) Krancjar and (Luka) Modric wide. Modric could play on the right just as easily as on the left.
"The two Croatian boys are fantastic technicians and great footballers."
