Dimitar Berbatov to return to Tottenham in Lewis Holtby loan deal?
Dimitar Berbatov looks set to sign for his former club Tottenham before the end of the January transfer deadline this week, with Lewis Holtby heading the other way to Craven Cottage as part of a loan swap deal.
The enigmatic Bulgarian has impressed for Fulham this season despite the side languishing second bottom of the Premier League. Meanwhile Holtby has struggled to secure a first team place since his move from German club Schalke last year. Both Schalke and Borussia Dortmund have made enquiries surrounding the availability of the 23 year old German, however neither team seem able to meet Tottenham’s asking price of around £8 million and so it looks certain that the young midfielder will head out on loan for the remainder of the season.
Holtby’s agent Marcus Noack admits he expects his client to leave on loan before the end of January. 'My feeling is that he will leave but it's not in our hands at the moment,’ he said. 'Tottenham have to agree to let him go first. We hope to find a solution in the next couple of days. I think it will be a loan because it is difficult for anyone to buy Lewis.'
Berbatov previously enjoyed a successful spell at White Hart Lane, scoring 46 goals for the club, before signing for Manchester United for £30.75 in 2008.
