Defoe suffers surgery blow
03 Feb 2009 - 07:20:54
Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has been ruled out for around ten weeks due to a stress fracture in his right foot.
The 26-year-old England international was injured during training, having scored three times in four games since his £15million return to Spurs from Portsmouth.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Following further scans and examination, Jermain Defoe will undergo surgery on Tuesday after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot.
"Early detection has allowed the club to opt for the best long-term treatment."
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has voiced his delight at bringing Robbie Keane back to the club from Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
He told Sky Sports: "I think he will make a massive impact. He's not only a good player, his enthusiasm for the game, the character in the dressing room around the place.
"He's a boy who wants to win at whatever he does and I think that rubs off on people and you need that at your club and I think he'll bring so much to us.
"He's full of energy and every time he puts his shirt on he goes out and gives everything he's got and add to the fantastic ability he's got, that's why he's such a good player."
