Defoe questioned by Jol

Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol has put Jermain Defoe's White Hart Lane future into question after an amazing put-down of the England striker.

Jol has been left reeling by the news that Robbie Keane will be out of action for around six weeks after he suffered medial knee ligament damage after scoring the winners in Spurs' 2-1 midweek victory over Middlesbrough.

Keane and Dimitar Berbatov have been the Dutchman's preferred strike partnership this season, but it was believed the injury to the Republic of Ireland international would open the door for Defoe to stake his claim for a starting berth.

However, Jol doesn't appear to be the England international's biggest fan after suggesting he isn't as competent in front of goal as his team-mate.

Jol told the Mirror: "Now we are at a disadvantage because we are going to have to play Defoe.

"You saw the other night that Keane came on, he had one chance and he took it."
