Defoe over biting incident

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is refusing to let the controversy surrounding last week's biting incident effect his preparation for Saturday's game with Watford, according to assistant manager Chris Hughton.

The England striker was criticised for biting the arm of West Ham midfielder Javier Mascherano last weekend, but he hasn't let the media storm effect him in training.

"Initially we didn't see it but he is well aware of what he did and, that being the case, our support always goes with him," admitted Hughton.

"He's been his normal self on the training ground. The one thing about Jermain is that he is someone who very much lives for the game.

"The lad looks after himself very well. He has great enthusiasm and has a big disappointment when he doesn't play. They are the sort of players you want around you."
