Defoe injury news lifts Spurs

Tottenham will welcome back Jermain Defoe from a hamstring injury against Sunderland on Saturday.

The 23-goal striker has missed the last three games with a hamstring strain but has provided manager Harry Redknapp with a timely boost after returning to training this week.

However, Defoe may have to be content with a place on the bench at the Stadium of Light.

Peter Crouch, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Roman Pavlyuchenko have all scored during his lay-off and Redknapp may opt to keep faith with the in-form trio on Saturday.

"It's great news. Jermain trained fully today (Tuesday) and is in the squad for the weekend," revealed Redknapp.

"I'm really pleased. He's a terrific little striker and a fighter. It's great to have him back so soon."
