Defoe blasted by Redknapp

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp was unimpressed by Jermain Defoe's antics in the incident-packed 2-1 victory at Portsmouth.

The England international, on his return to one of his former clubs, scored what proved to be the winner at Fratton Park before being sent off for appearing to stamp on Aaron Mokoena.

Redknapp, who was also returning to a club he left in acrimonious circumstances 12 months ago, said: "If he kicked him, for sure he should be sent off.

"I told him 15 times before the game not to react if he gets kicks. Sure enough that's what he did."

Of his reception from the majority of the Pompey fans, which was surprisingly cordial, Redknapp added: "There was no trouble. I sat among the fans and they were fantastic, so it all got hyped out of nothing.

"It was a difficult day. I couldn't believe what I was reading, I thought 'why?'.

"The club did very well out of me. Other people leave football clubs, so what have I done wrong? I didn't know what to expect because of the different things being said."
