Dawson targets silverware

Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Michael Dawson has backed his side to challenge for honours in the near future, with Spurs still involved in the UEFA Cup and FA Cup.

Ahead of the last 16 European tie with Sporting Braga, former Nottingham Forest stopper Dawson believes it is time that his club showed their potential was starting to be realised.

He said: "We've got world-class players at the club and, come the end of your career, it's all about winning things.

"It's credit to the lads what we did last season and it's given us more hunger to go on and win something. We set our standards for this season.

"We're a young squad, but we want to stand up and be counted and that's about winning things."

England international Dawson moved to White Hart Lane just over two years ago and has missed just one game this season through suspension.
