Dawson ruled out of Swiss clash

England's medical team have confirmed that central defender Michael Dawson will miss the Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland on Tuesday evening due to a knee injury sustained in the win over Bulgaria.

The Spurs stopper was forced out of the 4-0 Wembley victory just before the hour mark, amid fears that he could be facing a lengthy absence.

A statement from the FA confirmed: "Following a scan on his knee this morning, Michael Dawson will miss England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland on Tuesday.

"England and Tottenham Hotspur medical staff were in contact this morning and Dawson has now returned to his club for further treatment."

An FA insider had previously been quoted as saying: "Last night we really thought Michael Dawson had broken his leg, but the scan has shown no fracture and no snapped ligament.

"The damage will keep him out for around five to six weeks. It is apparently not as bad as we first feared and that is at least some good news for him."

Dawson was making his first start for England on Friday evening, having featured as a substitute in the 3-0 friendly win over Hungary last month.
