Dawson hopes for Modric stay
Tottenham Hotspur central defender Michael Dawson hopes the club can keep hold of Chelsea target Luka Modric this summer. Chelsea are looking to lure the Croatian schemer away from White Hart Lane and have had two bids rejected for the player. Modric has admitted his desire to make the move to Stamford Bridge and it has been reported he has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force a move through. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists Modric is not for sale and Dawson hopes the midfielder will remain at the club. "This time of year there are always going to be rumours and Luka's been linked with Chelsea," Dawson told Sky Sports News. "From a team's point of view you want to keep your best players and the chairman has come out and said he is going to keep him so that is great for the football club. "We are all friends with Luka, we have got great team spirit amongst the players and we want to keep that together. "The chairman has come out and said no one is for sale so that's great." Dawson admits Tottenham's aim for next season is to qualify for the Champions League after missing out on the top four last term. "We are striving to be in top four next season and that is our aim," added Dawson. "We did it two seasons ago, it was a fantastic campaign we had last year and unfortunately it is not to be this year. "Our aim in the Premier League this year is to be in the top four again." Dawson expects the club to make some new signings this summer as they look to get back into Europe's top club competition. "You always want to improve the squad, but if you look at the squad it's a top, top squad. "You always want to improve and freshen things up and I am sure the manager and chairman will be looking to do that."
