Berbatov exit talk quashed
06 Nov 2007 - 07:59:49
Tottenham's sporting director Damien Comolli has dismissed the prospect of unsettled striker Dimitar Berbatov leaving the club next year.
The Bulgaria international was linked with several clubs, including Manchester United, in the summer but opted to stay at White Hart Lane.
However, after netting 23 times in all competitions for Spurs last season following his £10.9million switch from Bayer Leverkusen, Berbatov has struggled this term, scoring only twice.
He had to be coaxed off the substitute's bench by former boss Martin Jol in the recent defeat at Newcastle United and failed to make new manager Juande Ramos' starting line-up in Saturday's draw at Middlesbrough.
The 26-year-old's agent, Emil Dantchev, met Comolli to discuss his client's future, prompting rumours suggesting Berbatov was set to leave north London.
However, Comolli insists: "It's simply not an issue.
"I met with Dimitar's agent and he assured me Dimitar isn't looking for a move in January and simply wants to concentrate on helping the team push up the table.
"He's on a long-term contract with us and Juande (Ramos) sees him as an important part of our plans."
