Bent dismisses Jol talk

Tottenham Hotspur's record signing Darren Bent has dismissed reports suggesting that head coach Martin Jol's job is under threat.

A 4-0 thrashing of Derby County at the weekend made up for defeats for Spurs in their first two games this season, but rumours about Jol's future at White Hart Lane refuse to go away.

"It's absolutely ridiculous that he's under pressure," said England striker Bent. "He has got top-five finishes in the last two seasons.

"He's worked wonders, so people talking about him getting the sack is absurd.

"He knows he's not going anywhere. He has made a big impact on me already.

"He's the one that got me from Charlton. He's going to have a massive influence on my career and I want to repay him with goals.

"His coaching methods and the way that he talks to you shows he's a top manager. He shows everyone a lot of respect, while others will hammer a player if he's not done something right.

"He just talks to you, gets his point across and everyone knows what he wants."

Former Charlton Athletic frontman Bent netted his first goal for Spurs against the Rams, as he starts to repay the £16.5million fee that saw him move across the capital in the summer.
