Bassong news boosts Spurs

21 Sep 2009 - 15:55:39

Tottenham have revealed that Sebastien Bassong did not suffer a serious head injury during Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The Cameroon defender was stretchered off the pitch wearing a neck brace after falling awkwardly in a collision with Nicolas Anelka.

Bassong was taken to hospital for medical tests but was allowed to return home on Sunday evening.

"Sebastien Bassong was back at Spurs Lodge today (Monday) for further assessment after being given the all-clear by a head and neck consultant at a hospital on Sunday evening," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The Cameroon international centre-half was stretchered off after suffering a head injury in the second half of our fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge."

However, Spurs have yet to discover the extent of the hamstring injury which forced Ledley King off during the second half at Stamford Bridge.

"Ledley King will undergo a scan on his right hamstring after also being forced off with injury early on in the second half yesterday afternoon," added the statement.

Fellow centre-halves Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson are also currently sidelined through injury.
