Tottenham's Gareth Bale has been named Wales' Footballer of the Year following his meteoric rise during the past 12 months. Bale, 21, has gone from the fringes of the first team at the north London club to one of the hottest properties in European football. He helped Spurs qualify for the Champions League for the first time last season and was recently described by manager Harry Redknapp as one of the best left-sided players in world football. Bale, who has won 25 international caps, was handed the award at a ceremony at the Cardiff City Stadium. Elsewhere, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey was named the Young Player of the Year for the second successive time. Swansea City defender Ashley Williams was named as the Club Player of the Year.
