Bale faces fresh injury woe

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Gareth Bale is facing around three months out of action as he requires surgery on a foot ligament injury.

The 18-year-old Wales international has suffered a number of problems since joining Spurs in the summer from Southampton, with the latest problem with his right foot flaring up in the 3-2 defeat by Birmingham City just over a week ago.

Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli told the club's official website: "Following a review of all the scans, Gareth will now undergo an examination under anaesthesia to determine the damage sustained to the foot.

"Even if the examination reveals that his foot is stable, the decision has been taken to bring him back slowly to ensure he does not get a repeat of the injury or suffer any further damage.

"Gareth is obviously disappointed to be sidelined for this length of time, but he is still young and we have to do what is best for him in the long run."

Bale has scored three times in 12 appearances for Spurs this season.
