Bale blow stuns Spurs

Tottenham defender Gareth Bale is unlikely to play again this season, according to the club's sporting director Damien Comolli.

The 18-year-old Wales international, signed from Southampton last summer, has already been sidelined for over two months since suffering a strained ligament after being tacked by Birmingham City's Fabrice Muamba.

Bale has only recently had the cast removed from his foot and Comolli knows it is a long-term injury.

"Gareth's injury was reviewed and, although the surgeon was happy with the results of the X-rays, he doesn't anticipate Gareth being able to play any further part in this season," he told the club's official website.

"We're all disappointed for Gareth, but he's still very young and his long-term fitness is our priority."
