Bale beaten but earns plaudits

Gareth Bale's stunning second-half hat-trick nearly earned Tottenham a remarkable point as they lost 4-3 to Inter Milan in a dramatic clash at the San Siro.Harry Redknapp's men trailed the reigning champions 4-0 with 35 minutes gone, and were down to 10 men after goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes saw red for bringing down Jonathan Biabiany as he closed in on goal. But Spurs were a different side after the break and Bale's treble, two of which came after rampaging runs down the left, could have earned them a draw had the game gone on for a couple more minutes.Inter hit the ground running and led after 66 seconds when Javier Zanetti netted, before Samuel Eto'o slammed home from the spot (11) after Gomes' indiscretion. Two become three after 14 minutes when Dejan Stankovic shot home from the edge of the area after a wonderful passing move, and a close-range hit from Eto'o 10 minutes before the break looked to have wrapped things up.But Bale had other ideas and went on two storming runs before hitting across Julio Cesar's body (52 and 90) and another injury-time drive off Aaron Lennon's pass capped an unbelievable finale.
