Anderlecht face UEFA probe
07 Dec 2007 - 17:00:28
UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Anderlecht after objects were thrown on to the pitch during the Belgian side's UEFA Cup draw with Tottenham on Thursday.
Spurs qualified for the knockout stages of the competition after coming from behind to draw 1-1 thanks to Dimitar Berbatov's second-half penalty.
However, Didier Zokora required treatment after being struck on the head by a missile and goalkeeper Paul Robinson handed the fourth official a metal bar which appeared to have been thrown from the crowd.
The case will be heard by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee on Thursday 13 December.
Spurs coach Juande Ramos said after the game: "This is very bad for the players and those who work in football.
"But I did not see what happened. We have to be left in peace on the pitch and you can't have objects thrown because somebody could get hurt."
Spurs defender Michael Dawson added: "Myself and Pascal Chimbonda went in to make a block challenge and then a few things were thrown, luckily enough they didn't hit me.
"Didier (Zokora) went off and I'm not too sure what hit him. For him to go off, something must have hit him. I could see some coins being thrown around me.
"If you get injured in the game that's part of football, but you don't expect that kind of thing to happen."
Earlier this season, Anderlecht were fined after crowd disturbances marred a Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce.
