A new Fazio at Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettinos' Tottenham Hotspur side are slowly taking shape with time in the transfer market rapidly dwindling. Michael Dawson finally completed his protracted move to Hull City yesterday after spending over 9 years at the club which is now expected to coincide with the signing of Sevilla Captain Federico Fazio after Spurs are reported to have activated the big defenders £8 million release clause.
The young Argentine manager is already seemingly ushering in a new phase at Tottenham. His side remain unbeaten in all competitions and are already showing signs of his influence on and off the pitch with fluid, dynamic and energetic attacking play. There are also and a growing number of playing staff publicly displaying their affection to his methods with Emmanuel Adebayor the latest to wax lyrical about his new boss after the thumping of QPR. He told the official club website,"We're improving, kept the ball well and played as a team. We all have fun and enjoy it as well. The gaffer asks us to get on the pitch and enjoy ourselves."
Anyone watching the game could not of failed to be impressed with the style in which the side played, albeit again a poor QPR. A number of last years signings, now one year down the line, are coming good with Erik Lamela seemingly blossoming under his compatriot.
This summers transfer policy also seems to be taking shape with players coming in that actually seems to be addressing problem areas rather than bodies for the sake of it. Pochettino likes working with young energetic players and the signing of Eric Dier already looks like one of the signings of the summer. The young defender from Cheltenham is making an early push to be included in the upcoming England squad with two faultless displays. Young Ben Davies coming in has also seemed to have had the desired effect on Danny Rose proving that competition for places along the back four can improve players that have not pushed on in recent years.
Liverpool this Sunday will be the first major test for Tottenham this season and anything better than a 5-0 loss will be an improvement. One thinks that it may be a little closer than last season.
