50 Rising stars to watch in the Premier League: No 5 Danny Rose
Published : 01 Oct 2010 14:34:45
Football.co.uk reaches number five in its new countdown today as Daniel Jolly looks at a wing wizard in the making.
Name: Daniel Lee Rose
Born: 2nd June 1990 (Age 20)
Club: Tottenham Hotspur (currently on loan at Bristol City)
International Honours: England U17s (10 caps, 2 goals) U19s (6 caps, 1 goal) and U21s (11 caps, 2 goals)
A product of the Leeds United academy, Rose's early career was embroiled in controversy after being caught up in a transfer scandal between Leeds and Chelsea.
Leeds chairman Ken Bates accused the Stamford Bridge club of trying to tap up Rose and other academy players from the club.
Despite choosing to remain with Leeds, the Doncaster-born winger never made a first team appearance and after the Elland Road outfit entered administration in 2007, he was sold to Tottenham for a fee believed to be in the region of £1million.
After a loan spell with Watford, Rose's debut for Spurs came in August 2009 when he came on as a substitute in a 5-1 Carling Cup victory over home-town club Doncaster.
Soon after, another loan move to Peterborough followed but this was cut short after the departure of then Posh boss, Darren Ferguson.
His first start for the White Hart Lane club came in the FA Cup in January of this year, ironically in a 2-2 draw with former employers, Leeds. He was booed all game by the visiting supporters.
A memorable league debut followed three months later, in a clash with North London rivals Arsenal. After starting the match, Rose opened his account just nine minutes in with a sensational 35-yard volley.
In September, Bristol City snapped up the winger on a season-long loan deal, where he was recently joined by fellow Spurs youngster Steven Caulker.
