First the sweat and then the blood.[LNB]Fabio Capello warned his players this would be no holiday camp. Matthew Upson ended Wednesday's training session with a head wound and Ledley King's knees will be feeling the effects of a rigorous work-out.[LNB]Capello and his red-jacketed coaching team examined Jamie Carragher at right back, James Milner in central midfield and a central defensive pair of King and Rio Ferdinand.[LNB] Tested: Ledley King (centre) had a rigorous workout before being withdrawn[LNB]King is no longer accustomed to such extended training ground activity. He was first on the pitch to perform a series of stretches and almost lasted the distance, including plenty of ball work, until his personal trainer Nathan Gardiner pulled him out.[LNB]Gardiner is the man who manages King's schedule at Tottenham, keeping him fit in the pool and the gym and making sure his damaged knees are ready for match day. He will accompany the central defender throughout the World Cup finals.[LNB]Capello's army of Red Coats is a formidable size. Seventeen were on parade here, including Stefano Tirelli, a highly respected Italian fitness coach.[LNB]Christian Lattanzio, another Italian, released from West Ham's technical coaching department since the takeover in February, is also in the England camp as a psychologist, although on Wednesday he doubled up as a translator as the manager addressed the media.[LNB] Nasty: Matthew Upson received a blow to the head .... but he could smile about it afterwards[LNB] [LNB]Twenty-four players trained, at the home of ATV Irdning. With the five FA Cup finalists not with the squad yet, and Gareth Barry injured, Capello split the rest into two groups.[LNB]Half of them went to do gym work with fitness coach Massimo Neri while Stuart Pearce was put in charge of a session of defence against attack, spraying the ball wide to the wingers and crossing.[LNB] Double act: Fabio Capello and Stuart Pearce at England's pre-World Cup training session[LNB]After working for more than an hour, the two groups swapped over. AdamJohnson, Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone, three of those withsomething to prove to Capello during the Austrian camp and thefriendlies against Mexico and Japan, looked excellent.[LNB]However, there was another injury problem for right-back Glen Johnson, who tweaked an ankle, but it is not thought to be serious.[LNB]Capello looked on, occasionally making a point, but he was mainly happy to leave the coaching to Pearce.[LNB]LINE UPS[LNB]Back Four A: Hart; Carragher, Ferdinand, King, Baines. Worked against midfield of: Lennon, Huddlestone, Gerrard, Carrick, A Johnson and front two of: Rooney and Crouch.[LNB]Back Four B: Green; G Johnson, Dawson, Upson, Warnock.
