Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate is targeting Champions League qualification next year after finishing the current campaign with a flourish. Spurs are still in the hunt for a Europa League place this season and Woodgate wants to continue their recent good form after the summer, echoing the sentiments of boss Harry Redknapp. "I want to finish as far as we can up the league," Woodgate said. "The aim is always to get in the top four and the Champions League." He added: "We'll see how we do. It's going to be a better team next year, you can see how the team has changed under the manager we have now. "Robbie (Keane) and Jermain (Defoe) have been good acquisitions for the squad, along with Wilson Palacios, who has been brilliant for us. "It's taking shape in the training ground and we are starting to do it on a Saturday." Spurs have been helped by Woodgate's partnership with Ledley King in defence. They have conceded just nine goals in 18 home games and could beat their record of 11 during the 1919-20 season. "The defence is unbelievable," said goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes on Spurs TV Online. "They play very well all the time, they help us so much for our clean sheets. "It is the best defence I have played in, they understand the game so much and that is important for us."
