William Gallas wants to help Tottenham to Champions League
If Tottenham continue their fine Premier League form, adding a bit more defensive steel to their impressive flowing football going forward, Champions League qualification is a distinct possibility.[LNB]To do that Harry Redknapp's side will need to let in fewer goals and, if they can do that it will be, according to William Gallas, very much an achievement made in Chelsea.[LNB]The 34-year-old made his first start of the season following injury in the 1-0 defeat by Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday night and believes his experience in helping out less experienced defenders Younes Kaboul and Sebastien Bassong is proving vital. It's something, he says that he benefited from at Chelsea, when the former France captain Marcel Desailly helped him.[LNB] It's good to talk: William Gallas (left) and Marcel Desailly during their Chelsea days[LNB]'It's now been a long time that I've played in the Premier League and I have a lot of experience,' said Gallas, who joined Spurs last summer from rivals Arsenal. [LNB]'I've spoken a lot with the young guys - Bassong and Kaboul - and I know sometimes in training they watch me and how I play and sometimes they try to do the same thing as me. I did the same thing with Marcel Desailly. He was another good defender so I think it is the best way to improve players. I can help them with how I play. I am a professional guy so it is good for Tottenham.'[LNB]Clearly Gallas does not lack confidence but he is right. The Frenchman was outstanding at times last season and will surely play an important role again on the field. But his influence on Kaboul in particular has been noticeable, the 25-year-old improving immensely, playing a big part in a run which has seen Redknapp's side undefeated in the league since August.[LNB] Aiming high: Gallas hopes to help Spurs into the Champions League[LNB]'The squad is stronger this year and I think and believe we can finish in the top four, maybe win something. You never know in football. Everyone is talking about Manchester City, they did well, but I think we have to believe in ourselves and try to win every game and at the end of the season we will see.'[LNB]As he returns to the side gradually, Gallas is not just seeing a new maturity in the Tottenham defence. He is also impressed by Redknapp's summer signings Scott Parker - another former Chelsea player - and Emmanuel Adebayor.[LNB]'I knew Scott from Chelsea,' added Gallas. 'I played with him there so I know what he can do. At the moment he does a good job for us. He sits in front of the two centre backs. He runs everywhere. His quality is really good. He can make good passes and at the moment, he is one of the best midfielders in England.[LNB]'It is not just down to him though. We have Adebayor. He did a good job for Arsenal as well. I know him from there. I know that he will score a lot of goals this season and maybe that will make the difference.'[LNB] Spurs will have a tough job stretching their unbeaten run on Sunday when they travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham, who they lost to 4-0 in the FA Cup last season. Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol also has a point to prove and is just seeing his side hit form. But Spurs, says Gallas, have a reason of their own to take three more points - manager Redknapp.[LNB] High flying: Tottenham have made an impressive start to the season[LNB]'We have to win because he is not well at the moment and he is a good guy, the manager. So I think we have to do a hard job on Sunday for him, for of all for us, and for the fans. The most important thing at the moment is to win because we want to finish in the top four so it would be great if we can do it.'[LNB]Redknapp is expected to make 11 changes for Sunday's game, sticking with the team that beat QPR last weekend.
