Why Spurs are a team in desperate need of strengthening

So here I sit waiting for something good to be on TV and something comes into my head, if I had the money at Spurs where would I spend it?

The positions for me that need to be beefed up are left back and striker. We could also really do with a playmaker, someone of the quality of Modric or Van der vaart, which don’t get me wrong is hard to do with anything less than 20 million.

Ok so let’s start with Left back, the two spurs have at the moment are Benoit Assou Ekotto and Kyle Naughten - so let’s start with BAE. For me, he is the weak link in the Spurs’ defence. He is too inconsistent and makes some dreadful mistakes that cost Spurs dearly, he just isn’t up to the same standard as the rest of the defence and is quickly being left behind by a team that is progressing at rate that I’m sure will challenging for the league within 2 years. His crossing is hackney marshes and not White Hart Lane quality, I just don’t feel he deserves to be in the team.

Kyle Naughten for me isn’t progressing at the rate of the other Kyle on the right side. They both came with high regards and Kyle Naughton just isn’t showing the class to be in the team.

Ok so what are the alternates? Well for me, the only one I can think would be a great purchase is Leighton Baines. He is a player that stands out in a team that can be said to be punching above their weight in the league, so what would be the sticking point transfer fee? 12 -15 million may be enough for Everton to part with him and let’s say the wages 50 – 60 thousand which for me is nothings for a player of his quality.

So, the striker position is the much debated position on the internet on many different sites, with every one having opinions on who Spurs should sign. Let’s start with the two Spurs have Adebayor and Defoe. Out of the two I would keep Defoe and let Adebayor go. Why would I do this? Easy, really. Defoe scores goals from anywhere and can change games on one turn and shot, Adebayor is to inconsistent, too hit and miss and you never know what player will turn up from game to game, neither are 20 -30 goals a season strikers and I don’t feel they can be.

Alternates? Well for me there are many that could be great for spurs and then there are some mentioned that wouldn’t be, so we have the obvious Damiao and Negredo from international and Seville respectively, but do I feel they could be great? I just don’t think so. I like Fred of Fluminense. Now at 29 maybe he isn’t first choice but his goal record speaks for itself. 59 goals in 88 appearances isn’t a bad rate for a striker that may cost you 8 to 10 million. Some of the other strikers that I feel would be good for Spurs is Loic Remy and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Both are powerful forwards and can score goals when needed, as Remy has shown during his time at QPR.

If there was one attacking midfielder I would want to see at Spurs and that would be Moutinho from Porto, now I don’t know if this will happen but I’m sure willing to as it would give Spurs the strength they need to challenge for the league.
