What's going wrong at Spurs?

12th place after 11 games of the Premier League season is not where Tottenham wanted or expected to be. But the question is what is going wrong at White Hart Lane?

One of the main problems is that they are simply not scoring enough goals; scoring only 14 goals in their opening 11 games. Consistency of the strikers has been a problem, with £26 million pound man Roberto Soldado struggling to score; he has failed to find the net in any of the five Premier League appearances he has made this season. Meanwhile Emanuel Adebayor has only scored 2 in 768 minutes of Premier League football. The only striker they have not really tried is Harry Kane the England U21 international, he has scored 7 in 6 in the Europa League and League cup, and has scored 1 in 1 start and 6 brief sub appearances in the Premier League , is he the man to score the goals Spurs require?

New Manager Mauricio Pochettino has struggled at the start of his tenure at Spurs. He has introduced a new style of play at The Lane, and as of yet failing to get much of a reward. Introducing a very high intensity and pressing style, which the players are yet to adapt to, but can they adapt over time and climb up the Premier League table.

Another problem, Spurs don’t appear to be able cope with weekend Premier League games, straight after playing in the midweek Europa League games. They have lost three of the four Premier League games, after playing their Thursday night Europa League games. Is this telling us Spurs can’t deal with the Europa and Premier League, or is it just a coincidence? I think not, the Spurs squad don’t seem able to deal with this, they need to find a way round it,to achieve the high expectations of the Club to do well in both competitions.

The summer signings have still to work out for ‘The Lilywhites’, the players they brought in have not made the expected impact. They have brought in Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Eric Dier, Federico Fazio and Benji Stambouli. Vorm, Davies and Stambouli have only occasionally featured in manager Pochettino first team plans. Fazio seems to be struggling, picking up two red cards in just eight appearances. Thankfully for Tottenham, Dier has made a solid start.

Tottenham fans and officials want a fast improvement, so can they turn this poor start round? Where will they finish in the Premier League? In my opinion Spurs have too much class to finish at or below the 12th spot they currently occupy. But a top four spot seems a long way off, finishing 7th or 8th seems more realistic. But they should stick with Pochettino, I think over time he will be a success.
