Villarreal weighing up Roman Pavlyuchenko loan deal as Spurs stall on £8.5m approach

Villarreal have apparently confirmed their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. The Spanish club's secretary general Jose Manuel Llaneza is understood to have been in London last week to discuss a deal for the Russia striker. However, the clubs are some distance apart on a fee. Villarreal were hoping to get their man for about £8.5m, but may rise to about £10m, while the north London club are hoping to recoup most of the £13.8m they paid to Spartak Moscow last summer. Tottenham are prepared to let the 27-year-old leave for the right price after his  indifferent debut season in the Barclays Premier League. With Roma, Stuttgart and Besiktas are thought to be interested, a Villarreal spokesman confirmed their interest, according to Russian newspaper Sport Express. The Spaniards are looking to improve their attacking options after striker Nihat returned to Besiktas and attacking midfielder Matias Fernandez signed for Sporting Lisbon. They also face a fight to keep former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi, who is attracting interest from Italy. Villarreal may consider paying a fee to take Pavlyuchenko on loan rather than upping their bid to sign him outright.
