Yahoo, the Sun and the Dailymail are running stories claiming the player wants to leave England and take up a major playmaker role in the German side.
According to the Sun international team mate Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has demanded they sign him, Huntelaar has been offered a new deal to stay but refused to commit his future to Schalke unless they pursued the Tottenham player.
Other reports state that Van Der Vaart's wife doesn't like the travelling and it would solve the problem having of her to spend more than half of every week away from home.
(She works for German television station RTL and is based in Cologne, barely 100 km from Schalke’s ground.)
