Trusting Capello earns King's respect

edley King has vowed to repay the "great faith" shown in him by England head coach Fabio Capello.[LNB] King is a strong contender to partner John Terry in England's opening World Cup match against the United States in Rustenburg on Saturday after skipper Rio Ferdinand's withdrawal.[LNB]The centre-back is indebted to Capello for allowing him to stick with the fitness programme he uses at Tottenham to overcome his long-term knee problem.[LNB]King seldom trains, spending the bulk of his time in the gym and swimming pool, and Capello has been prepared to stick with this tried and trusted method.[LNB]King, who is expected to feature in Monday night's practice match with the Platinum Stars, said: "It's difficult for him (Capello) and for me coming into this situation.[LNB]"I felt awkward at first but I couldn't have asked for more. He's been brilliant.[LNB]"It's just a different situation. I've not been involved with England and they've not seen how I work throughout the week.[LNB]"It's been a bit of a shock to the players - and maybe the staff - but the manager has been brilliant.[LNB]"He's told me to do what I would normally do. He's not a manager who is going to show favouritism to anyone.[LNB]"You have to perform and do the right things. It was flattering that he showed great faith in me.[LNB]"For him to show that faith in me is a great compliment and I'm hopeful I can repay that.[LNB]"It's great for me to have that much respect from somebody of his magnitude, a manager who has been there and done it all."[LNB]King admits he is happy to be able to concentrate fully on England for the time being after a testing season fitness wise at White Hart Lane.[LNB]He said: "I suffered quite a few muscle problems and then I would have the problem again when I was coming back.[LNB]"It's difficult to then go away with England, play on a Wednesday and then be fit for Tottenham on a Saturday.[LNB]"That was a bit of a problem. Now the season is finished and I can concentrate on England."[LNB]King will only be seen occasionally on the training ground this week despite the USA game being on the horizon.[LNB]He said: "It's something that I'll speak to the manager about to see which day he feels is important for his preparations for the team and I'll try to be out there for that day.[LNB]"Normally I would get out there on the Thursday and just do some work with the fitness coach to get my legs going and then train with the team on Friday."
