Transfer News - United, City, Chelsea and Spurs track Luis Suarez

Financial problems at Ajax could prompt a bidding war for highly-rated Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez - with Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham primed to make a move.

The World Cup star said recently he may be forced to leave the Dutch club, in an attempt to help ease their mounting debts.

"Ajax's financial position is the only reason I'm even thinking of a transfer," Suarez told NU sport.

"But if I leave Ajax, I will go to a club where real football is played. I have never asked for a transfer. If I felt I was finished here I would say that but I don't. I can achieve what I want here. We must win the (domestic) championship and do something in the Champions League."

A pricetag of £30 million has been mentioned in dispatches, although some reports suggest Ajax are so desperate for cash they could settle for less.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are apparently keen on Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Daily Mirror reports the 23-year-old is being monitored by Arsene Wenger, who is apparently keen on re-uniting him with former team-mate Thomas Vermaelen at the Emirates.

Vertonghen and Vermaelen are also international team-mates for Belgium.
