Transfer News: Forlan interested in Tottenham move; Arsenal target Buffon

After reportedly rejecting approaches from a number of Europe's top clubs over the past couple of years Diego Forlan finally looks set for a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Spanish club have endured a torrid season so far and look unlikely to qualify for the Europa League, let alone the Champions League. This has convinced the former Manchester United striker to look at other options, with Tottenham a possible destination.

Harry Redknapp is a known admirer of the Uruguayan forward and has made more than one unsuccessful effort to sign him over the past year. It is believed that Atletico will let Forlan leave for around £15 million.

Arsene Wenger is intent on bringing an experienced goalkeeper to the Emirates this summer, with Gianluigi Buffon the latest player linked with a move to north London.

The 33-year-old Juventus legend could be available for free in July and is an attractive option for conservative spender Wenger.

The Gunners are likely to face competition for the Italian's signature if he does decide to leave Juve, with Manchester United also keen on finding a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.

Niko Kranjcar has admitted he will leave Tottenham this summer. Everton and Liverpool are interested in the ex-Portsmouth man.

Spurs could use some of the money from Kranjcar's sale to fund a £15m move for Ipswich forward Connor Wickham.

Newcastle want Reading striker Shane Long but so do Aston Villa and Wolves.

Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks.
