Tottenham's Heurelho Gomes keen to stay at White Hart Lane

Gomes endured a mixed start to his Spurs career. He seemed destined for the exit door once Juande Ramos was sacked following a strong of high-profile howlers at the start of last season as the club floundered at the foot of the table. When Redknapp was brought in to replace Ramos, one of the first things he did was to sign Carlo Cudicini from Chelsea, a move many perceived to be the end of Gomes time at White Hart Lane. However, the Brazilian 'keeper, signed from PSV Eindhoven, refused to accept that he could not handle the pressure of the Premier League and decided to fight for his place. And so impressive was the 28-year-old's later form, as Tottenham turned their season around, that he finished the campaign as Redknapp's No 1. Gomes is currently with the Brazil national squad at the Confederations Cup in South Africa and has been linked with a move back to Holland as PSV and Ajax monitor his situation. Gomes, though, wants to stay at Tottenham, and said: "I want to stay but if they want to sell me then I'll have to go. "Tottenham is a great club in England and I think I'll do really well next season. I have three years left on my contract and I want to stay. "I think the second half of the season was so much better. But I've worked hard and obviously goalkeeping coach Tony Parkes gave me confidence. So I would like to stay."
