Tottenham's David Bentley holding talks with Aston Villa

The news comes after just one year after Bentley signed for Tottenham from Blackburn for £16 million. The 24-year-old former Arsenal trainee is understood to be on the look out for regular first team football elsewhere having fallen out of favour with Harry Redknapp. If talks continue, Bentley could find himself as part of a swap deal, with Redknapp looking to exchange him and Jermaine Jenas for Villa winger Ashley Young. Confirming the situation, Bentley told the Sun: '"I'm in talks with Villa at the moment. "I really don't want to say much more. But we'll see what happens. I'm hopeful of sorting it out as soon as possible." Meanwhile, Villa defender Curtis Davies has said he expects manager Martin O'Neill to bring in at least six new signings this summer in a bid to see the side clinch a Champions League place. Villa had been on course for a fourth place finish last term but faded out and had to settle for sixth. Martin Laursen and midfielder Gareth Barry have already left since the season ended, and Davies is expecting the action the get underway soon. 'I expect a lot of ins. We had one of the squads that used the least players again. "I am sure the gaffer will want to be building the squad rather than to be breaking it apart. It will be an interesting summer. "Last summer I think we signed something like six players and I can imagine something along similar lines. "If people see the progression we have made as a team, and we get the right names here, they could help push us into the top four."
