Tottenham v West Brom - Live!

02 May 2009 14:23
90+4 There goes the final whistle and West Brom fail to get the point they probably deserved, a free header from Martis in the second half could have changed things at White Hart Lane, but as it stands, West Brom are almost certainly going down now while Tottenham have another three points on the board[LNB]90+3 The ball almost falls right on Carson's head but Martis leaps higher to win the header but his effort is well wide[LNB]90+2 Koren wins a corner off Corluka, last chance for the Baggies as Brunt stands over it, Carson comes up for it[LNB]90+1 Jenas forces Carson into a save as he cuts inside onto his right and curls an effort on target, Carson is equal to it and Spurs have a corner[LNB]90 Lennon hits the post as he almost seals the win, Carson was beaten at the near post[LNB]89 Modric cuts inside onto his right foot before firing a shot high and wide[LNB]87 West Brom fans around the stadium look gloomy to say the least, they might yet nick a point here but they know wins for Sunderland and Hull this weekend will all but send them down if they don't win here[LNB]86 Modric tries to find Keane with a lofted through ball but it's over hit and Carson is off his line to clear[LNB]85 Modric fouls Mensequez out wide and West Brom have a good crossing opportunity from the right flank. Brunts delivery is easily dealt with by the Spurs defence[LNB]84 Modric curls a good cross in with the outside of his right boot, looking for Keane but Martis clears for a Spurs corner[LNB]83 Keane's cross is easily dealt with by Olsson as he heads the ball into Carson's grateful arms[LNB]81 Defoe has a goal ruled out for offside as a result of that break, questionable decision though, benefit of the doubt goes to West Brom on this occasion[LNB]80 Great save. Gomes at full stretch from a Koren effort palms away with hi right hand and Tottenham break with poession[LNB]78 Defoe finds Modric inside the area but the little Croat can't control it and West Brom survive[LNB]77 Filipe Teixeira comes on to replace Valero for West Brom[LNB]76 Corluka wins a throw for spurs under pressure from Fortune[LNB]75 Palacios brings down Mensequez in the centre of the pitch to halt a counter attack, he's the first booking of the match[LNB]74 Koren's dodgy backpass is almost pounced on by Keane but Carson reacts well and clears the danger[LNB]72 The outcome of this game is still anybodies guess, West Brom have had the better chances this half but Spurs do look a threat on the counter[LNB]70 Modric almost releases Defoe on goal but his though ball is tame and is intercepted by the Baggies defence, a good break from Spurs though[LNB]69 West Brom go close again. Martis again with a header, this time a more difficult chance but he hits the target and Tottenham clear off the line[LNB]68 Mensequez comes on to replace Mulumbu[LNB]67 Corluka cuts into the area and pulls a low cross back across goal which Valero turns out for a corner to Spurs[LNB]66 Simpson is fouled by Palacios and from the freekick Martis misses a sitter at the back post, he was completely unmarked[LNB]65 Lennon's cross is deflected off Olsson and almost catched Carson out[LNB]64 Defoe will be eager to impress the watching Fabio Capello who is at White Hart Lane today[LNB]63 Defoe comes on to replace Pavlyuchenko[LNB]62 Defoe is warming up on the touchline[LNB]61 Assou-Ekotto pops up on the edge of the box as the ball breaks to the fullback, he smashes an effort on goal but West Brom get bodies in the way[LNB]59 As we approach the hour mark West Brom will be happy that they're still in with a shout, they've gone closest in this second half and have restricted Spurs to just one clear cut chance so far in this half[LNB]57 Spurs go close to doubling their lead as Lennon's pull back across goal just needed a touch to turn it into the net, but Keane can't get a toe on it[LNB]56 Assou-Ekotto's cross is headed clear by Martis[LNB]55 Lennon latches onto a flick from Keane and takes on Olsson before drilling in a low shot on target from just inside the area, Carson was always comfortable with that effort though[LNB]54 Assou-Ekotto acrobatically clears some West Brom danger[LNB]53 Corluka's long ball evades everyone and falls kindly for Carson to collect[LNB]52 Modric goes on a weaving run into the box and does well to win a corner off Zuiverloon[LNB]51 Fortune goes agonisingly close again as he beats Gomes but not the near post and the rebound falls kindly for Spurs, a few warning signs for the home side[LNB]50 Fortune races onto a long ball down the right flank and does well to get a shot in on goal, he hit the target but Gomes gets down well to make the save[LNB]49 Lennon skips past Robinson and runs into Olsson who wins the ball and a freekick in the process[LNB]48 Jenas is penalised for a shirt pull. Carson takes the freekick and launches it well into the Tottenham half[LNB]47 Spurs stroking the ball around calmly waiting for an opening in these early second half stages[LNB]46 We're under way again at the Lane[LNB] Players are back out on the field as the second half looms, stay with us to see how this one unfolds[LNB] Another Spurs fan from St.Albans - Cameron Greer - wants to see Huddlestone introduced for the second half and predicts a final score of 3-0 to the home side[LNB] Baggies fan Liam Woodall thinks his team can turn this one around with goals from Brunt and Fortune, he insists West Brom must go for the win[LNB] Tottenham fan Jack Shephard from St.Albans thinks the home side can run riot in the second half, he's predicting a Defoe double if he comes off the bench soon enough[LNB]45+3 Rob Styles blows for half time and Spurs go in at the break with a 1-0 advantage, it's a good game of football with chances at either end, the next goal is crucial in this one I think. Let me know what way you think it's going to go by e-mailing me at jamie.casey@bskyb.com[LNB]45+2 Spurs nicely keeping posession now as they look to see out the half[LNB]45+1 Well they fooled everyone there as Jenas rolls the ball towards Palacios to shoot, his deflected effort wins a corner[LNB]45 Spurs have a freekick in a dangerous area, Jenas is standing over it as he looks for a quickfire double[LNB]44 What a sickener for West Brom after so nearly taking the lead a minute before that strike, but Spurs are worthy of their slender lead as we approach half time[LNB]43 GOAL JENAS! Jenas finds himself just outside the D on the edge of the box, sidesteps and curls a great effort into the bottom corner, great finish[LNB]42 Good response from West Brom that chance, they were under alot of pressure[LNB]41 Fortune goes close at the other end as he volleys a Zuiverloon cross over the crossbar, again - well struck but he did have other options[LNB]40 Lennon has another effort on goal, this time from around 25 yards, firmly struck but Carson palms away to safety[LNB]39 Lennon goes close but his deflected shot goes wide for a Spurs corner[LNB]38 Lennon puts in a low cross which is somehow miskicked by two Spurs attackers, Jenas then Keane before Pavlyuchenko's effort is blocked[LNB]37 Valero almost finds Fortune with a through ball but Woodgate comfortably deals with the threat and Spurs come away with posession[LNB]36 Koren's through ball is too strong for Valero and Gomes reads the pass well[LNB]34 A good run by Zuiverloon is halted by Palacios which ignites a counter attack ending in Pavlyuchenko shooting wide on the turn with his left foot, he's getting more into the game now the Russian[LNB]33 Wonderful ball from Modric puts Pavlyuchenko through on goal at a difficult angle and he stabs his effort high and wide, should really have made the 'keeper work there[LNB]32 Fortune goes down in the box with optimistic claims for a penalty from the away fans, not too much in that im afraid[LNB]30 Fortune takes on Corluka inside the area but runs the ball out of play in the process, Spurs goal kick[LNB]29 Modric is too casual and Mulumbu disposesses him and tries to find Koren in the box but his cross is overhit and Gomes collects[LNB]28 Koren ruins some nice crossfield play by West Brom by lashing his cross well wide bringing a sarcastic cheer from the home crowd[LNB]27 Palacios races onto a Corluka through ball but he can't keep his cross in play, goal kick to West Brom[LNB]26 Greening is down receiving treatment after that chance still[LNB]24 What a chance for Spurs. Carson spills a tame Jenas effort and the ball breaks to Lennon whose left foot effort sails wide of goal, he should've done better with that really[LNB]23 Gomes comes off his line a punches clear this time, so far so good for Spurs' suspect goalkeeper[LNB]22 Brilliant save from Gomes, Olsson gets his head to a Greening corner but the big keeper is equal to it, another corner to the away side[LNB]21 Pavlyuchenko clears the resulting danger as Spurs look to break, good end to end game so far[LNB]20 Corluka deflects the ball out for a Baggies corner[LNB]19 King and Fortune are having a good battle so far up front with the former England international currently on top as he deals with a long ball from Carson[LNB]18 Brunt cuts inside onto his left foot from the right wing and unleashes a shot on goal but King blocks his effort[LNB]17 Keane loses posession as West Brom look to break but Corluka brilliantly wins back posession[LNB]16 Woodgate is penalised just inside his own half, Greening lofts the ball into the penalty area but Zuiverloon's header across the face of goal is well read by Gomes[LNB]14 West Brom are finding their feet a little now as they're beginning to see more of the ball making good use of the space on the left wing[LNB]13 Brunt wins a throw in for the away side deep in Tottenham territory[LNB]12 Modric again puts in a poor delivery from the corner and West Brom get away with it[LNB]11 Lack of communication at the back there as Greening prods the ball wide when Carson had it covered, Spurs have another corner[LNB]10 King plays his way out of trouble by calmly stroking the ball back to Gomes in the Tottenham goal under pressure from the Baggies attack[LNB]9 Modric takes on Martis inside the area but the defender stands up well and puts the ball behind for a corner, which is wasted by Modric[LNB]8 Valero is caught offside from Brunt's through ball[LNB]7 Patrick O'Neill think Spurs will win 5-0 today claiming "someone is due a hammering," confident words there but they've gone closest so far[LNB]6 Pavlyuchenko hits the freekick hard an low through the wall but his effort misses the target by 2 or 3 yards, not troubling Carson that one[LNB]5 Modric is brought down on the edge of the box in a great position for Spurs[LNB]4 So a sniff at either end in these early stages, lively start at the lane[LNB]3 Valero is beaten to the ball by Woodgate at the near post from Koren's cut back, good chance for Baggies early on[LNB]2 Modric gets the first cross of the match into the area but it's easily cleared by Robinson[LNB]1 We're under way at White Hart Lane and the pitch looks in great condition, hopefully we'll see a smooth game of football here[LNB] Chris Penn, a dedicated Baggies in Ireland, is hoping his side can come away with a 2-1 win this afternoon, but realistically admits a draw would be a good result[LNB] Josh Coull, another Spurs fan, is glad to see the club finally forming a settled team and wonders if Redknapp will pair Defoe and Keane together as first choice when they're both fully fit[LNB] Tony McNab, a Spurs fan from Blewbury, thinks Redknapp has made a wise move picking Pavlyuchenko as the Russian is sharper at the minute, but he expects to see Defoe in the second half[LNB] So Defoe is left on the bench as Pavlyuchenko is preffered in attack. Happy with that Tottenham fans? What about you Baggies fans out there, can your team get anything out of this game?
